LOOK AT YOUR HAND

Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord:  "Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamour and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice."  Ephesians  4:31

"...the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee."   1 Corinthians  12:21

"Give me a hand with this, will you please?"  This common expression is used to request help in some situation or job.  But why do we say,  "give me a hand," or "lend me a hand," and not give me an ear, or an eye, or a foot?  Just because the a hand is the most useful member of the body.  It helps every other member.  The hand is truly the "helping hand."  Which member protects you when you fall?  When some object threatens your eye, what member rushes to the rescue immediately?  When your back itches, on which member do you call?  When you want to put food in your mouth, which member is called upon?  To button your coat, tie your shoes, comb your hair, brush your teeth, carry the groceries, etc., etc., etc., it is that helping hand!  It is the most useful, indispensable member of the body.  No wonder Paul says,  "...the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee."

The hand is mentioned 1433 times in the Bible.  The wrist has eight bones in two rows so it can move backward and forward and over half-way around.  No other joint like it!  The palm has five bones to act as supports for the hand proper.  Four fingers and with a nail on each end.  And look at that thumb, so set that it meets the fingers from the opposite direction.  Look at your fingers.  They are all of different lengths.  Is it a mistake by the Maker?  It would look so much nicer if they were even.  But wait!  Close your hand - and now they are all even!  Now close your hand over an orange and even the thumb is even with the fingers. Wonderful hand!  Look at it!  No wonder Solomon calls them  "the keepers of the house"  (Ecclesiastes 12:3).

God, too, has hands in which He holds us securely, for no man can pluck us out of His hand (John  10:29).  Look at your hand, and praise God for His hands!

<< 1 Corinthians 12:17-18, 26 >> We are the body of Christ. We need each other.
