"....because the Lord loved you...." Deuteronomy 7:8
Do you know the best reason in the world for anything is "BECAUSE"? It is the end of all questions and argument. When I was a boy and asked mother for something I wanted, she would often say "No." This always called for a "Why" from me, and invariably ended in mother's answer "BECAUSE." That settled it! Mother said "BECAUSE." I was yet too young to understand, and so the only satisfactory answer was "BECAUSE." Someone has said that "because" is a woman's reason; and if it is, it is the best reason in the world. You can answer more questions in less time with a final, conclusive, unquestionable "BECAUSE," than with anything else. Of course we don't know why, it's just "BECAUSE." None of us can give a good reason why we do anything. We do it "BECAUSE."
Why did you fall in love with your wife? I challenge you to give a single good reason except "BECAUSE." Don't tell me it was because she was the most beautiful woman. I challenge that statement! I married the most beautiful one! And why? "BECAUSE." Why do you like to play golf, but detest mowing the lawn? No man can give a good reason for preferring ginger ale to root beer, or beef to pork. It is just your opinion and a thousand others will disagree with you. Be honest - it's just "BECAUSE."
But's God's reason for doing as He does is also just "BECAUSE." He does not have to give a reason. All we need do is believe it. There is a verse in Deuteronomy 7:7 which will illustrate the validity of the "BECAUSE." He says to Israel, "The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people but BECAUSE the Lord loved you." Why did God love you? Listen! He loved you BECAUSE He loved you. That's reason enough! Do you want a better reason? There is none. Why? BECAUSE!"
