Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
God wants us to know there are people and things that sound good, look good and even are good that can distract us and even turn our hearts away from the Lord. Not everyone is devoted to the Lord. So let’s be smart about what is good and unswayed by what is evil.
Our loyalty must always be to God and His Word.

Digging Deep
Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
Read Psalm 1 "....like a tree planted by the rivers of water." Psalm 1:3
Never mind reading the rest of this devotional, if you have not read the Scripture (Psalm 1). God's Word is far more important than anything I can say or write. These devotionals are NOT a substitute for Bible study - but only an aid to interest you in the Word. Today we talk about trees. David compares the believer to a tree (verse 3). I do not know what kind of a tree it was but I suspect it was a PEAR tree, for it suits my story so well. In my orchard are two pear trees. Last summer was excessively dry and all the vegetation was seared and withered. One of the pear trees was unaffected and remained fresh and green and yielded some luscious Bartlett pears. But the other tree did not do so well. Its leaves turned yellow, the fruit shriveled, and both dropped to the ground, leaving the tree DEAD (as it seemed from appearances). Then came the rains, and the ground was soaked with moisture. And the tree sprang to life again and was soon covered with leaves and (believe it or not) burst into full bloom. In the latter part of August it was full of blossoms, and little pears came into view - and then the FROST, and no fruit. The other tree was loaded. What was the difference? The one tree had its roots DEEP in the soil where it found water. The other had shallow roots, and depended on the uncertain rains for its fruit. The one was like David's tree, "planted by rivers of water." The other - though covered with belated bloom - bore no fruit.
What kind of a tree are you? Are your roots dug deep into the underground streams of the Word of God or do you depend upon the showers of circumstances? How sad to awaken too late to bear fruit, and be saved "so as by fire." Blossoms are PROMISES of fruit - but you cannot eat blossoms! DIG DEEP, brother, DEEP into the Book, and the drought of disappointment will not affect you.

I Am Your Living God....
Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
I AM YOUR LIVING GOD, far more abundantly alive than the most vivacious person you know. The human body is wonderfully crafted, but gravity and the inevitable effects of aging weigh it down. Even the most superb athlete cannot maintain his fitness over many decades. Lasting abundant life can be found in Me alone. Do not be anxious about the weakness of your body. Instead, view it as the prelude to My infusing energy into your being.
As you identify more and more fully with Me, My Life becomes increasingly intertwined with yours. Though the process of aging continues, inwardly you grow stronger with the passing years. Those who live close to me develop an inner aliveness that makes them seem youthful in spite of their years. Let My Life shine through you,as you walk in the Light with Me.

Be Still....
Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from us, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
“He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God.’” Psalm 46:10a (NIV)
Here’s the truth: The word still — as in “don’t move” — is not in my vocabulary. Stand still? Sit still? Lie still? Nope. I shift from foot to foot or wriggle in my chair or flip back and forth in bed every two minutes, searching for a more comfortable position.
So when God says, “Be still,” I know I’m in trouble. The words may sound soothing, but in Scripture they’re a gentle but firm reproof. “Calm down” (CEV), He says. “That’s enough!” (CEB). At the time these words were written, God was speaking very pointedly to His battle-prone people. “Stop fighting” (ERV), He told them, “cease striving” (NASB) and “desist” (YLT).
Okay, then.
It’s clear that in our own daily battles we’re to lay down our weapons and trust God for the victory, believing it will come in His perfect timing and according to His flawless plan. In the meantime, He tells us to rest in Him and “let go of your concerns!” (GW)
We nod in agreement even as we hang on to those concerns with both hands. If we don’t fret over our children’s future, who will? If we don’t worry about our parents’ health, who will? If we don’t agonize over life’s disappointments, big and small, who will?
He will. That’s what God wants us to understand.
Only when we stop moving and stop striving can we recognize the truth about God: He is in control.
No matter how crazy our world gets — and it’s definitely getting crazier by the minute — God is still in His heaven, and His good and perfect will is certain to prevail.
When our verse continues, “know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10a), He’s reminding us who He is and what He can do. The creator of all things — including all humanity — knows how to calm our hearts, ease our minds and guide our lives in the right direction.
In the meantime, our calling is simple. Be still. Believe. Be ready.
One autumn morning my husband and I breezed along a country road, taking my new car for a spin. It was a beautiful Thursday, not a cloud in the sky, not a troublesome thought on our minds.
Without warning, a car coming from the opposite direction swerved into our lane and headed straight for us. Several cars were in front of him, so he couldn’t get back in line. The road had no shoulder, no passing lane and no obvious way we could escape a head-on collision.
Three words pounded in my heart. Be still. Know.
With only a split second to act, I dove into the grassy embankment and steered around a telephone pole, a large electrical transformer, an enormous tree and one very long white fence.
When I finally braked to a stop without hitting any of the above, I was amazingly calm. No tears, no trauma, no trembling hands.
Another car that had also been forced off the road pulled up behind us. “Are you okay?” the anxious driver wanted to know.
“Fine,” we both assured her, blinking at each other in astonishment. We were fine. So was our car. Clearly, the Lord had spared us. While I was being still, He was steering.
Does this mean in our day-to-day lives we should take our hands off the wheel, kick back, take a nap, trust God? Not quite. Our hands must stay on the wheel, at the computer, in the laundry basket. Wherever our day finds us, we need to be fully engaged.
But when worries come, we can lift them up to God. When adversaries appear, we can let God handle them. For God to change how we live, He first must change how we think. Step one? Be still.
Lord, help us be still and not strive, to stand in place without pacing in circles. Help us sit calmly and wait for the promised victory that is in Your able hands. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Trust Me Enough....
Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
TRUST ME ENOUGH to let things happen without striving to predict or control them. Relax, and refresh yourself in the Light of My everlasting Love. My Love - Light never dims, yet you are often unaware of My radiant Presence. When you project yourself into the future, rehearsing what you will do or say, you are seeking to be self-sufficient: to be adequate without My help. This is a subtle sin - so common that it usually slips by unnoticed.
The alternative is to live fully in the present, depending on Me each moment. Rather than fearing your inadequacy, rejoice in My abundant supply. Train your mind to seek My help continually, even when you feel competent to handle something by yourself. Don't divide your life into things you can do by yourself and things that require My help. Instead, learn to rely on Me in every situation. This discipline will enable you to enjoy life more and to face each day confidently.

Worship Me Only....
Come, sit, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the comfort of the Lord: "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice." Ephesians 4:31
WORSHIP ME ONLY. I am King of kings and Lord of lords, dwelling in unapproachable Light. I am taking care of you! I am not only committed to caring for you, but I am also absolutely capable of doing so. Rest in Me, My weary one, for this is a form of worship.
Though self-flagellation has gone out of style, many of My children drive themselves like racehorses. They whip themselves into action, ignoring how exhausted they are. They forget that I am sovereign and that My ways are higher than theirs. Underneath their driven service, they may secretly resent Me as a harsh taskmaster. Their worship of Me is lukewarm, because I am no longer their First Love.
My invitation never changes: Come to Me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest. Worship Me by resting peacefully in My Presence.
